Scratches on the Foreman grill OK?

I noticed some scratches on the stove in my George Foreman Grill is probably Girl 18 mos. I use an abrasive sponge to clean plastic. Anyone else had this happen with non-stick surface of the Foreman grill? I fear that the coating is coming in my diet. It is peeling in large sections, scrapes just put the grill marks.

I had this happen to my old. I am a new and better way I found to clean it. Saving for a low temperature heat. and pour a glass of water on it and close the lid. Lift the lid and everything will end with a paper towel such as heat and Things out water vapor.
